The original Brandt factory near Hagen, Germany was founded in 1912 by Carl Brandt and his brother Fritz Brandt. Brandt has produced a variety of food products over the years ranging from bread to biscuits and rusks to chocolate. The factory shown here was opened in 1921 and closed on 5 December 2003. The current Brandt factory is in Ohrdruf, Thuringia. The Thuringia government partly subsidised the move and the new factory with the loss of around 500 jobs in Hagen.
I had the pleasure of visiting when, as informed by the owner of the weirdest eyebrows on the plant, the factory was on fire. It was only a small one and apparently burnt itself out.
