Manicomio di Volterra

Manicomio di Volterra is a well-known place in Italy, perhaps made most famous by the graffiti of Nannetti Oreste Ferdinando, a patient who arrived at the hospital in 1958 and used his belt buckle to carve into the hospital walls. Like most mental hospitals in Italy, 1978 was a watershed year, and Volterra closed the same year that 'Law 180' was passed.
